It's reasonable to say John Stewart never dreamed his South Surrey Queen Anne Revival farmhouse would end up becoming a well-liked historic destination a century later. But it really did turn out that way.
Imagine a location where the hustle and bustle of city life miraculously disappears. Where is this amazing location? You could have accidentally passed it while on route to Crescent Beach.
It's simple to forget you're in the twenty-first century as you approach the painstakingly restored building with its turned finials at the gable peaks and attractive wraparound veranda. A Victorian-dressed tour guide will be waiting for you as you open the front door, ready to give you a tour and tell you about the Stewart family. You are welcome to independently tour the home and location if you choose to time travel alone.
It is simple to believe that a member of the Stewart family has just left for a little while as you move through the well furnished rooms. You'll be drawn into the kitchen by the scent of oatmeal cookies baking in the woodstove, where seasonal back-to-basics cooking workshops are offered and groups can have scheduled teas.
Climb the creaky wooden staircase to the kids' rooms, where basic toys that are unimaginable to children today sit as if their youthful owners just set them down. The bedroom of John and Annie Stewart is next, including warm fir floors, lace curtains, an elegant bed, and a sewing corner.
