History: The Museum of Anthropology was founded in 1947 by Harry Hawthorn, a professor of anthropology at the University of British Columbia, and his wife, Dr. Audrey Hawthorn. The museum was initially located in a small room in the university's library, but it quickly outgrew this space and moved to its current location in 1976.
