UBC Botanical Garden

UBC Botanical Garden is a 44-acre public garden located at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Founded in 1916, it is the oldest university botanical garden in Canada and one of the oldest in North America.

The garden features over 8,000 different plant species from around the world, including a large collection of Asian plants, alpine plants, and native plants of British Columbia. It is divided into several sections, including the Alpine Garden, Asian Garden, Food Garden, Greenheart TreeWalk, Nitobe Memorial Garden, and Physic Garden.

The Nitobe Memorial Garden is a traditional Japanese garden that was built to honor the Japanese scholar Dr. Inazo Nitobe, who was an advocate of international peace. The garden features a pond, waterfall, tea garden, and a ceremonial teahouse.

The Greenheart TreeWalk is a suspended walkway that takes visitors through the tree canopy of the garden's Pacific Spirit Regional Park. It is designed to educate visitors about the importance of conservation and sustainable forestry.

In addition to its gardens, the UBC Botanical Garden also houses a herbarium, seed bank, and research facilities. It offers educational programs for all ages, including workshops, guided tours, and school programs.

Overall, the UBC Botanical Garden is a beautiful and educational destination for visitors to learn about the diversity of plants from around the world, as well as the importance of conservation and sustainability.

Virtual Tour: UBC Botanical Garden

UBC Botanical Garden was founded in 1916 by John Davidson, the first provincial botanist of British Columbia, and is the nation's first university botanic garden. The garden's original purpose was to do research on British Columbia's indigenous flora. The UBC Botanical Garden's goal has expanded over the past 100 years to now encompass education, research, conservation, community engagement, and the open display of temperate plants from all over the world.

The UBC Botanical Garden's aim to improve plant and biodiversity conservation, research, education, display, and outreach is strengthened by the post of Artist in Residence. With the help of this programme, the general public will have a rare chance to get more involved and understand the relationships between people and plants. As they increase the celebration of plants, biodiversity, ecology, and human-nature relationships, they also want to encourage people to investigate their own gardening practises.
