Vancouver, a bustling west coast seaport in British Columbia, is among Canada's densest, most ethnically diverse cities. A popular filming location, it's surrounded by mountains, and also has thriving art, theatre and music scenes. Vancouver Art Gallery is known for its works by regional artists, while the Museum of Anthropology houses preeminent First Nations collections. Port Vancouver is Canada's "Alaskan" cruise port and homeport for Alaska-based liners during summer. The port handles annually over 1 million passengers through Canada Place cruise terminal.
As a world traveller, you get that booking Vancouver shore excursions either before or after an Alaska cruise affords you a unique opportunity to experience the city’s warm hospitality and diverse cultural offerings. But did you know that since cruises are scheduled from May to September, you’ll also enjoy Vancouver’s best weather, affording you the perfect opportunity to explore its vibrant urban environment and incredible natural beauty?
Vancouver is a city that’s best experienced outside, taking advantage of its gorgeous outdoor spaces that include beaches, botanical gardens, parks, and culturally diverse neighbourhoods. With no shortage of things to do before your Alaska cruise from Vancouver, you’re sure to find a perfect fit for your time and interests.
If you love the idea of trolling neighbourhoods to really feel a city’s pulse, spend time in Gastown, Vancouver’s oldest neighbourhood and a designated historic area. It’s a trendy mix of art galleries, home décor boutiques, souvenir shops, and restaurants, many housed in restored Victorian buildings, and you’ll be enchanted by the Whistling Steam Clock and the Victorian lampposts. For a newer, hipper vibe, tour Yaletown, a historic warehouse district, now gentrified, with an eclectic mix of restaurants, boutiques, residential and business, and it really comes alive in the evening, starting at cocktail hour. Robson Street, in the heart of downtown, is perfect for fashionable strolling, shopping and lunching, or enjoying a proper afternoon tea at the Fairmont Hotel. And, a trip to Chinatown, yields a treasure of Asian specialty shops, dim sum palaces, and traditional Chinese herbalists.
Vancouver’s natural beauty and green spaces are stunning and spectacular, and booking guided Vancouver shore excursions to Shannon Falls a 1,100-foot tall waterfall and to the Sea to Sky Gondola, which takes you on a ride 2,900 feet above sea level, is an excellent way to ensure that you capture that beauty in postcard-perfect photos.
To immerse yourself in the emerald green acres of Stanley Park, schedule Vancouver shore excursions like the self-guided hop on, hop off open-air bus tour that lets you stroll the park at your leisure, enjoying the view from paths that hug the waterfront, stop by the Aquarium, or visit the family-friendly outdoor waterpark. After the park, hop back on the bus and head for Granville Island and the Granville Public Market. Here you’ll find your heart’s desire of food and craft vendors, and a Kids Market, complete with outdoor play area

That sounds like a wonderful experience! Vancouver is known for its beautiful natural scenery, and the blooming flower fields are definitely worth a visit. The sunflower festival in particular can be a great opportunity to take stunning photos and enjoy the vibrant colors and aromas of the flowers.
It's important to keep in mind that weather conditions can affect the timelines and availability of the flower fields, so it's a good idea to check with the tour operator or local authorities to confirm the dates and locations of the festival. It's also important to be respectful of the environment and follow any guidelines or rules for visiting the flower fields, such as staying on designated paths and not picking the flowers.
The sunflowers are beginning to open in the fields that draw visitors from across the state and beyond.
In Vancouver, millions of sunflower seeds are sown each May. However, the field opens around July 1, and blooms typically last for about 10 days.
You may have heard of some of these before, but some are hidden gems that locals like us may share with the world:
The owners ask that visitors don’t bring pets. There is a Minimum dollar charge to enter the field or take photos of your own children or your own friend with your phone or camera. However, professional photographers must pay $20 per client/session in the field.
It's always a good idea to bring your own cutters for safety reasons, as well as to ensure that you have a tool that works well for you. If you don't have cutters, the farm may have some available, but it's best to confirm this with the tour operator or the farm ahead of time.
The pricing for the buckets of flowers sounds reasonable, and it's good to know that you can put up to 14 flowers in a bucket for $10. It's important to follow any guidelines or rules for picking flowers, such as not damaging the plants or taking more flowers than allowed.
Overall, bringing home a bucket of flowers can be a wonderful way to extend the joy of the sunflower festival and enjoy the beauty of the flowers long after your trip is over.
You can also buy a single flower for $1 each.
Field owners also sell T-shirts, cantaloupe, watermelon, and sunflower seed packets. Be sure to bring cash or a checkbook, though, because Internet service is very poor at the farm.
The field is open from dusk to dawn.

There are more than a few beautiful places to go: Many farms open their gates to locals and tourists alike so you can appreciate the view before the flowers are harvested for market. A few locales even host festivals when the fields are in full bloom. Whether you're going with family or friends, these events have activities and tours that are fun and exciting for everyone. Some even allow you to pick your own flowers. Alternatively, naturally grown fields offer another view:
These parks and reserves a wider variety of flowers. You'll have a lot more room to roam, but remember that these ecosystems are much more delicate than their human-grown counterparts. For preservation's sake, stick to the trails and leave flowers to grow naturally.(That way, you and the rest of the country can admire them again next year.)
