ETIAS is a fully online travel authorisation, not a sticker visa, residence permit, or permission to work. Use the official EU site only; the EU says operations are expected in the last quarter of 2026.
The EU states the application fee will be EUR 20, approximately CAD $30–$35 depending on exchange rates; applicants under 18 and over 70 are among the stated fee exemptions. Check launch status and fee before applying.
Most online authorisations are expected to be processed quickly, but a manual review can take longer. Apply before airline check-in and do not treat a pending application as permission to travel.
Apply online through the official EU ETIAS website or app when the system is open. No BLS Vancouver appointment is expected for ETIAS; use the Schengen route instead if the passport is visa-required.
ETIAS is intended for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The authorisation is linked to the passport, so a new passport may require a new application.
Applying on a lookalike commercial site, using a different passport from the one used at boarding, confusing ETIAS with a visa, or ignoring a manual-review email can cause travel disruption.
